What Is Medicaid?
Medicaid is a public assistance program that provides medical and dental benefits for people who are considered to be low income. The purpose of the program is to ensure that elderly patients, sick or disabled patients, and single mothers and children have access to good medical and dental care. Dr. Templeton’s practice works with Medicaid in Scott County to ensure that all of our patients have access to the treatment they need.
How do I apply for Medicaid?
If you wish to apply for Medicaid, you’ll need to complete an application, which is available on the Virginia Department of Social Services website. Once you have completed the Medicaid form, you can return it to the Scott County Department of Social Services Office in Gate City.
What dental care is covered for adults under Medicaid?
Medicaid dental coverage for adults is limited only to procedures that are medically necessary, such as removing a tooth that is infected. Medicaid insurance will cover the treatment, in addition to any diagnostic testing — such as x-rays — that need to be performed to find the source of the problem. If you require care for a problem that is not considered an emergency, Templeton Dentistry can help set up a payment plan or discuss other payment options so that you can get the dental care that will best benefit you.
What dental care is covered for children under Medicaid?
Virginia Medicaid for children covers a wide variety of dental care services, including:
- Preventive exams
- Tooth extraction
